I think Blue Hills as a lot of potential as a place to get in a few runs when you don't have enough time to go to a real mountain, or as a place to take a new skier to help them learn before they spend money and time on a real mountain. I was there last Sunday (12/31/2021) for night skiing. Lines were short and everything seemed to run smoothly. The one lift feels like a real antique but there's nothing too wrong with it. My biggest complaint is that the snow quality on some of the hills was pretty bad. The one black diamond (more like a blue) called Big Blue Headwall had snow that was 100% chunky crud. It was like maybe fist sized pieces of ice distributed around the hill. They need either better snow making or better grooming. Interestingly, the other hill had snow that I would consider passable and I had some enjoyable (if short) runs on it. If the snow quality was better I might think more seriously about skiing here more in the future if I didn't have a whole day to spend skiing.
Close to Boston
Small, poor snow quality

Skiing seems to be the only thing kids are doing this year so everywhere is busy and sold out. This place does not have sufficient parking capacity and you have to park away then walk. Not convenient with kids. The only covid related practice is that everyone wears mask but I paid for skiin lessons which started yesterday and after 30 min trying to find a parking space all the parents were stepping everywhere and there was no control on who were the kids in class and who were just regular skiers. The place is very run down and looks as they were not prepared for the work of the season. The classes are long and overall I did not feel COVID safe. Overall I do not think I will go back and probably wasted my money because their manager refused to even take a call from me.
close to the city
Poor management

I got season pass and went a bunch with my kids and they learned to ski (ski school is good). It was great. We would go for 3 hours and that was perfect for us (short ride away). They are not ready for 8 hours of skiing and 2 hours each way. They have good snow making so even when no snow on my lawn, they had good trails.
Close to Boston
A little expensive

Blue Hills Ski Area is a family friendly mountain with excellent instructors and good snowmaking. Some of the past instructors include Olympic and World Cup winners. Our grandchildren look forward to their lessons each week and the love the view of Boston from the top of the hill, especially as the lights come on at night.
Excellent instruction. Great views of Boston.
Not enough people know about this hidden gem.

Ok I had promised one of my friends id take her skiing in New Hampshire but there was a rather large storm and I wasnt going to be driving my car up north. Decided on a limb to try bluehills since its about 20 minutes away. I was very impressed I paid 16$ To ski for three hours. For anyone who can ski or ride properly theirs really only one lift for you, and if you dont immediately put the bar down they slow the lift and yell at you. Also beware they have their staff hide in the woods under the lift and yell at you then stop the lift to yell at you if your bar isnt down( not that I was that guy but it was happening alot. Well we did the night skiing, Terrain park was decent to say the least and there is one trail that takes about a minute to get down. Again I wouldn't go out of my way to ski this hill but for the price and if theres a healthy layer of powder id reccomend spending while on this hill and you will enjoy your self.
Decent rails and jumps in the terrain park
over zealous lift attendants
I went to Blue Hills the other day for the first time. Its great in the sense that you can go hit a few runs after work and be home at a reasonable time and for a reasonable price, but you get what you pay for. There are really only two runs open for night skiing, and they were pretty well tracked up by the time I got there. And one of the runs was nearly monopolized by a high school ski team. But if you've got an itch to hit the slopes midweek, but dont have the time to head up north to new hampshire or vermont, it will do, just go with the understanding that this is really a hill with a few short runs.
close to boston, cheap, friendly
few trails, terrain park
