Charming Mom and pop owned local small town ski hill that takes you back to simpler days. I love the relaxed feel, and the fun loving skiers that call this place home. I can see why Bruce Willis liked Soldier Mtn. Thanks Matt and Diane for your cool energy.
Great small town feel, everyone's friendly and helpful. Lodge is clean, food and beverage great
Too bad there isn't on mtn lodging

We love this mountain. It's perfect for family. It's perfect if you want to find some great powder! ... It's just a great value overall. We love it.

Never had a bad day at Soldier. The resort accommodates everyone in our family, from the magic carpet beginner, to the off-piste adventurer. The new Lodge is a big plus as well.
More terrain than people!
No high speed lifts or trams.

Soldier is a small, mom and pop mountain that offers fewer runs but for value and space. Never fight crowds or space on mountain to ski. Basic grub and bar available, and instructors are ample for beginners.

Soldier Mountain is under new ownership, and things are headed in the right direction. The staff has formed a commitment to its patrons through great customer service and beautifully groomed slopes. The mountain may be smaller than the other options in the surrounding area, but it makes up for it with all the perks. Gear rental is a breeze, the food and drinks are worth the money, and the prices are just right for an all day event with the family. A friendly place for the young ones to learn and a plenty of room if like untouched powder. This year, you need to make a trip to Soldier Mountain and fall in love with the little resort with the best atmosphere in Idaho.
Excellent lift pricing, excellent grooming, well worth a visit and a return visit.

New owners! I hope they keep up the great mom and pop affordable ski area.
As you read the other reviews you can see that all talk about the snow. Yes I will concede that the snow is good but it comes at a price. From the map you can see that there are only 2 chairs. What the map doesn't tell you is that you have to walk/hike to chair 2 from the top of chair 1. Not easy if you are a snowboarder. Manageable only if you have poles to push you up the small hill to chair 2. Once you get to the top you have to deal with too much ice near the terrain park, never a good idea to mix the two. While the snow is good in most parts of the mountain it can be too deep. I liked the pow but there was a lack of vertical terrain that allowed sufficient speed to get through the deep snow. Also if you pay close attention to the map you will see that you will have a lot of walking/hiking to do to get to chair 1 from the bottom of some runs. While this was a nuisance as a snowboarder, perhaps in my previous life as a skier I wouldn't be as bothered by all the flat spots on the mountain. Overall I was sorely disappointed in all aspects of this mountain (and I have boarded 9 of the mountains in Idaho so I know a little about ski hills), and that includes my meeting with the ski patrol hut who knew very little about first aid.
Good Snow.
Nothing good left to say
To boast zero manmade snow is a brave thing to do these days in the ski industry, but make no mistake, Soldier Mountain is worth boasting about. The fact that there is no snowmaking at Soldier bolsters their claim to be “Southern Idaho’s premier powder experience”. With 1,150 skiable acres and some of the best backcountry skiing and cat-skiing (Author’s note: Their cat-skiing operation is down for the 2010/2011 season but they hope to have it up and running again next season.) in Idaho, Fairfield’s Soldier has provided even long-time Sun Valley locals some of their best powder turns ever. Two lifts service the pretty epic glades, bowls, and 15 groomed runs with names like “Shoo Bop Drop” and “Wang Dang Doodle." And if a sense of humor, and a reputation for good skiing and good vibes wasn’t enough to get to you Fairfield, their “Thrifty Thursday” deal, which offers two-for-one lift tickets on Thursdays, must just do it. Open Thursdays to Sundays
Awesome snow, no waiting in the lift line.
High ticket prices...Just kidding!
