I know all Skis resorts in Argentina. Although I have my heart in Bariloche (different variety of ski alternatives) there always seems to be some hazard. Either there is no power or strikes or rain or not enough snow, you name it. Cerro Castor is the best option, being so southward and cold there is never shortage of snow. All through spring (september) as well. Even through October! Buildings are quaint, restaurants on the slopes are fine, pistes and off pistes are great and varied.

I skied here for 3 days in early Sept, it was my first visit to South America. The skiing was great and the snow conditions were good even in warmer weather (40s F), there was minimal ice in the mornings and only on a couple runs in the afternoon. The scenery is amazing, the mountains look at least as big as Colorado even though the base elevation is lower. Another really good plus (especially on the higher runs up the mountain) is that there are very few people and you feel like you have the mountain to yourself. This is especially true during the weekday. The ski area doesn't have much else at the base of the mountain but most people are going to stay in Ushuaia which is about a 30 min transfer away, and this has all of the typical amenities of a smaller ski town as well as some great adventure tours. Another plus is that you can usually find staff that speaks English so if you do not know Spanish that well this shouldn't be an obstacle. I would also say the ski area provided a good value if you plan to say 3-5 days. Beyond that and you might get bored because you would have already done most of the terrain.

I spent half week in Aug 2017 in Cerro Castor with some friends and we had a good time.
The resort is mid sized with great piste conditions that were kept until the end of the day mainly because the slopes were empty (it was the first week of the mid season). It is great for intermediate and beginners but maybe not so challenging for experts. The resort have easy access from Ushuaia via a well maintain road and the transfer takes about 40min. The staff all over the resort was very nice and my only complain is the speed of lifts that were kind of slow. Everything else was great. That week there were also some international ski teams training there (from Canada and Europe) that confirms the resort as one of the best options in the south hemisphere.

El Cerro Castor era un hermoso lugar, hasta que unos mercenarios,envilecidos por tener cada vez mas poder y dinero, se adueñaron de algo tan perfecto y bello como es la naturaleza, aprovechando al máximo todo recurso natural para convertirlo en un sucio negocio.
En esta vejación constante, también transformaron el ski en un deporte de elite, que solo podían gozar los turistas y adinerados del lugar, convirtiendo a los lugareños mas humildes en sus serviles y nuevos esclavos. Ya no se iban a poder divertir o admirar libremente a la naturaleza,sino que también los iban a apartar por completo de toda inserción social, poniéndolos al costado del camino: con educación deficiente, trabajos mal pagos, pésimas condiciones en salud y dirigentes corruptos. Este clima de hostilidad contante es lo que uno percibe por lo bajo en Ushuaia , los lugareños odian a todo turista extranjero o argentino, trabajan mal en sus actividades, y perjudican notablemente el clima general, cosa que puedo entender por lo anteriormente mencionado, pero no puedo justificar, ya que en lugares como el Cerro Castor el personal debe tener una atención personalizada y especial con los visitantes que van, por las condiciones climaticas y de riesgo que se pueden originar en este tipo sitios y por el costoso gasto que uno esta afrontando para pasar sus vacaciones allí.
No obstante la calidad y el trato de todo Cerro Castor deja mucho que desear, alli nadie se hace cargo de nada,, cualquier situación desafortunada puede convertirse en un espectacular desastre , como me ocurrio en mis vacaciones.
Pero lo peor de todo, es que estos "desastres" estan generados de forma premeditada por los empleados del lugar. No solo no nos ayudaron en una situacion de riesgo extremo sino que me torturaron entre dos personajes llamados Mauro Mercado y Luisina Morua, ejerciendo abuso de poder, para NO ayudarnos y HACERNOS desesperar , tanto a mi marido como a mi.
Estos daños y perjucios serán iniciados judicialmente con sus respectivos documentos para que esto no vuelva a sucederle a nadie más.
