Den schweiziske Valais-region er en af verdens førende skiregioner og hjemsted for mere end 70 skiområder, herunder nogle af verdens mest kendte.
Regionen er beliggende i den vestlige del af landet med en overvejende fransktalende befolkning. Nogle af skiområderne i Valais kopierer også franske standarder snarere end Østrig eller den tysktalende østlige del af landet. Dette betyder blandt andet at de tæller antallet af hver type pist (blå, rød, sort) i stedet for (eller i tillæg til) at måle længden af hver type pist som er normen mod øst. Der kan ydermere være en grøn eller 'meget let' kategori som der også findes i Frankrig.

Omkring 5% af verdens top skisportsområder er i Valais, heriblandt Crans Montana, Saas-Fee, Verbier samt Europas højeste skisportsområde Zermatt. Zermatt er det eneste område på kontinentet som har skiløb alle årets 365 dage. Samtlige fire områder har gletschere som giver et godt skiløb med høj snesikkerhed.

Adskillige berømte skiområder som ligger på tværs af landegrænser har deres schweiziske side i et Valais område. Skiparadiset som forbinder italiens Aostadal med Schweiz inkluderer Zermatt, mens en af verdens største skiområder Portes du Soleil, forbinder schweiziske feriesteder som Champery og Morgins til franske feriesteder som Avoriaz og Morzine. Et andet af verdens mest kendte og største lift-forbundne skiområder er 'de 4 dale', som er hjem for Verbier. Området har over 400 km (250 miles) pister og er hjemsted for nogle af skiverdenens mest prestigefyldte ejendomme, herunder Richard Bransons luksuriøse Lodge.

I lighed med andre schweiziske regioner har Valais's skisportssteder ry for høj kvalitet, store områder med masser af lifter til også de stejle pister, nem adgang med jernbane (enten direkte eller med en effektiv busforbindelse fra den nærmeste togstation) og storslået natur. I Zermatt's tilfælde naturligvis med udsigt til det ikoniske Matterhorn bjerg.
